Charleston, SC

18 October 2014

We motored out of Price Creek early yesterday and traveled through Isle of Palms which we were told had really skinny water and should only be navigated during a high tide. We were anxious to make Charleston early so we set off. Remember the tides here are about 4-5 feet. It was low. We stayed in the center and bumped a few times but made it arriving in Charleston around noon.

As we arrived at the Charleston Harbour Resort and Marina we stopped at the fuel dock. A dolphin came along side and looked like Flipper, rising out of the water and doing rolls.

The carrier Yorktown is berthed here and Robin tolerated another WWII ship tour. The ship was really impressive, it saw a lot of successful battles during WWII and also saw action during Korean and Vietnam.

Off to the city today to reprovision and see the sights.

John and Rosie Blakely set out from Bowleys today on they way down the ICW, we wish them fair winds and favorable seas.

  2. Josh & I spent two nights on the Yorktown when he was in Boy Scouts. Watched dolphins swim out of the harbor at sunset from the flight deck....

  3. We love reading about your adventures! Love Charleston!! If you see a white schooner with green stripe - wave hello - that was our wedding venue :). We know you'll enjoy the food there. So many wonderful restaurants... SNOB, 82 Queen, Poogan's Porch, Husk, to name a few but you really can't go wrong. Keep up the fun kids... We are all living vicariously, you know!
p.s. 4:47am?? They're not serving Chartreuse down there are they? ;)

  4. Thank you for your comments, we are really having fun exploring places new to us. Jen, we tried to get reservations for Husk, the next available was November 3rd, ha! The time stamp was wrong, I tried to fix it again. We'll see next post. No Chartreuse yet but it could be soon, now that we're reminded of a fun night in Baltimore.
